Notes of smoke, crushed stone and clove accent raspberries and cranberries on the nose of Champet's 2016 Cote Rotie la Vialliere. Medium-bodied, silky and long, it's one of those wines that's probably drinking best now although there's no rush to drink up

Brilliant violet. Intense, mineral-accented cherry pit and cassis scents, along with hints of succulent herbs, olive, smoky bacon and violet. Juicy dark fruit and bitter cherry flavors unfold and slowly turn sweeter on the back half while picking up a zesty hint of cracked pepper. Fine-grained tannins lend gentle grip to the finish, which hangs on with impressive, spicy tenacity and repeating smokiness.

A blend of 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier brought up in less than 10% new oak, the 2016 Côte-Rôtie La Vialliere is a beautiful 2016 that shows the elegant, balanced style of the vintage perfectly. Revealing a vivid purple/ruby color as well as complex notes of black raspberry, incense, white pepper, and gamy, bacon fat, it’s medium to full-bodied, has no hard edges, and fabulous purity of fruit. You can drink it today with incredible pleasure, but it will keep for upwards of two decades.
