Deep ruby. Mineral-accented blackberry and boysenberry aromas, complicated by peppery spice, olive and floral notes. Densely packed but energetic black and blue fruit flavors reveal hints of smoky bacon and candied violet and pick up a licorice quality with air. Shows very good depth of flavor with no excess weight. Finishes with nervy mineral cut, slow-building tannins and strong, spicy persistence.

The 2014s are certainly high quality and are perfect for drinking while you wait on the 2015s to get a touch of bottle age. The 2014 Hermitage Grand Classique from the Cave de Tain sports a deep, inky color as well as rich, concentrated aromas and flavors of blackcurrants, roasted herbs, scorched earth and licorice. It's a classic, medium-bodied, focused Hermitage that will be better with short-term cellaring and drink well for a decade.

Aged 50% in the casks used for the 2011 Hermitage and 50% in 2013 casks for 12 months. Dark crimson. Very juicy. Firm and inky. Very dry on the end. Convincingly Hermitage. Liquorice. Sinewy. (JR)
