Plump, plush, and classically Martillac, this is smoky, rich and deep, nicely layered and with a profound dark berry and stone fruit. A lovely creamy texture. Ripe, fine-grained tannins even shape a little plume on the finish. Nicely done and with decent density and concentration for the vintage. There’s nothing dry about it either.

Tasted on multiple occasions, the 2024 Château Lespault-Martillac should certainly be an outstanding wine. Based on 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Petit Verdot, it has a healthy ruby/purple hue and aromas of dark cherries, currants, smoky tobacco, and graphite. Medium-bodied and nicely layered, it has an elegant mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and plays in the forward, supple style of the vintage. It should drink well right out of the gate yet still evolve gracefully in bottle.

A blend of 40% Merlot, 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2024 Lespault-Martillac exhales aromas of cassis, flowers and dark berries, followed by a medium-bodied palate with a round, juicy core of fruit that segues into a fruity but also somewhat firm, angular finish.

The 2024 Lespault-Martillac was picked from September 24 to October 5at 50 hl/ha. This has a slightly more floral bouquet with hints of iris flower permeating the black plummy fruit. The palate is medium-bodied, smooth and velvety in texture and a little lower in acidity than the Domaine de la Solitude, with an understated, slightly iodine-tinged finish. Fine.
