Score 94/100 · Drink 2013-2025, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Apr 2012

The 2008 La Vinya Del Vuit, whose name comes from the eight friends involved in the project including Rene Barbier, originates from 3 hectares of 100-year-old Carinena that produce just 150 grams per vine in its hot micro-climate. The nose is initially very subtle with introspective dark berry aromas that unfurl with each swirl of the glass and are eventually joined by scents of wild hedgerow, wild strawberry, rosemary and fennel, all with wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with superb acidity and freshness. There is great purity and elegance here, a wine that demonstrates the tension and freshness that Carinena offers. The finish is beautifully delineated with touches of white pepper, raspberry, wild strawberry and a touch of sage. This is a fabulous wine, though just 2,000 bottles are produced. Drink 2013-2025+. No known US importer.
