The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru doesn't quite have the complexity of its peers, though attractive with dark berry fruit, sous-bois and a touch of pepper. It gains complexity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a granular texture, perhaps a little sweeter in the mouth with licorice-tinged black fruit. It's not entirely the level of composure as the best Morey-Saint-Denis, but it is a charming wine that will age well in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Vieilles Vignes is deep and concentrated, unwinding in the glass with aromas of cassis and wild berries mingled with warm spices, orange rind, burning embers and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, it's rich and concentrated, with lively acids and powdery tannins. Built to age, it will reward patience.
The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru comprises of 75% Les Faconnières and 25% from Les Chenevery planted by Laurent Lignier’s grandfather between 1936 and 1952. This has a very elegant bouquet, beautifully defined with shimmering red fruit laced with minerals. The palate is well balanced with fine tannins, a little earthy with a finish that is surfeit with tension. Often one of my favourite cuvées from the domaine, this will age with style.
