The 2016 Chablis Les Butteaux 1er Cru has a very pretty bouquet with yellow fruit, hints of white peach and an underlying mineralité that is accentuated with aeration. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry with a fine bead of acidity, lightly spiced with veins of ginger and lemongrass towards the pretty and quite intense finish. What an excellent Butteaux! Tasted blind at the BIVB Chablis tasting.

Notes of apples, ripe citrus and iodine introduce the 2016 Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux, a medium to full-bodied, stony wine with succulent acids and good depth. This largely escaped the frosts of 2016, and it's quite classic in profile.

Warmer on the nose than the Forêts, showing an apricot element. Fleshy and fat in the mouth, offering very ripe yellow fruit and honey flavors. Distinctly warmer in the mouth than the Forêts yet maintains good definition. Slightly phenolic and dry on the finish. A more earthy style than the sunnier Montmains.
