The 2023 Hermitage La Chapelle opens with aromas of gentian, elderflower, violet and dark berries, marked by a somewhat austere, reserved profile at this stage. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and structured, it’s built around a deep, firmly constituted core of fruit that conveys the telluric authority of the site, though presently constrained by a strict, somewhat unyielding structure. The finish is long and mineral but marked by a certain firmness. While the terroir clearly asserts itself, the vintage appears less naturally suited to this style. It should nonetheless evolve with time in the cellar.

Black raspberries, currants, smoky herbs, pepper, and some meaty nuances, as well as that classic floral character, all shine in the 2023 Hermitage La Chapelle, a beautiful, classic La Chapelle. It's medium to full-bodied, has a layered, seamless mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, solid mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It doesn't match the all-time greats, but it's certainly in the upper tier of La Chapelle in the past 20 years. Give bottles 4-5 years and enjoy over the following 20-30. Drink 2030-2060.

The 2023 Hermitage La Chapelle brings its opening notes of elevated spice box, dried violets, pencil shavings and stone dust. With a little patience bright red plum and black cherry aromas also come forward. Broad-shouldered and subtly smoothed, the 2023 bundles articulate tension, drawing back the palate with finesse and traction on the detailed finale.

Glossy red fruit, fresh violet, rose petal and leafy traces introduce the intricate 2023 Hermitage La Chapelle. Crushed rocks and jasmine scents add more aromatic layers. Fragrant and expressive, the medium- to full-bodied 2023 shines with elevated flavor concentration, neatly accompanied by sleek tannins and a bright acidic backbone. This is an inviting, upfront delicious La Chapelle coming with secure aging potential.
