The 2015 Morgon Côte du Py is superb, revealing a lavish and beautifully pure bouquet in which aromas of ripe black cherries and dried flowers mingle with subtle notions of licorice and rich soil. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and textural, with a layered core, incredibly fine tannin and a succulent, precise finish. One senses the ripeness of the vintage, but there isn't a trace of sur maturité in this wonderfully complete, harmonious Morgon. Enjoy it over the next decade or more.

Lurid ruby. Powerful, spice-accented red and blue fruit aromas are complemented by hints of candied flowers and incense. Broad, pliant and appealingly sweet, offering palate-staining boysenberry and cherry compote flavors given lift and focus by a spine of smoky minerals. In an ample but energetic style, showing impressive finishing thrust, sneaky tannins and lingering sweetness.

60-year-old vines. Partially destemmed. Fermentation lasted 15 days. Aged in oak barrels for 15 months. Mid to deep crimson. More sweet-fruited on the nose than the Charmes. A touch peppery and finely fragrant, even with a slight meaty note. Chewy, deep and satisfying – for the long term. GV (JH)
