(Charlopin has parcels in both Charmes and Mazoyères): Deep ruby color. Very primary aromas of blackberry, cassis and violet. Then densely packed and surprisingly sweet and pliant, showing a subtle saline character and full ripeness to the dark berry and mineral flavors. This wine displays sexy vinosity and more lift in the early going than the Clos de Vougeot. A rich, thick, very long Charmes-Chambertin with serious concentration.

(from parcels in Charmes and Mazoyères; still a touch of malic acidity remaining): Black-ruby! Very ripe, utterly primary aromas of blackberry, violet and licorice. Densely packed, powerful flavors of crushed dark berries and crushed rock showcase the Mazoyères component. Really bulletproof fruit here. The Mazoyères fruit ripens much earlier than the Charmes, and was picked a full week before it, according to Charlopin, who added that his parcel of Charmes has something of a northern exposition.
