Score 89+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2005

Bright, deep red-ruby. Tight, fresh aromas of blackberry, violet, licorice and spicy oak. Juicy and firm, even a bit austere, with slightly medicinal, cool flavors of dark berries, fresh herbs, licorice and menthol. Not a fleshy style but lively and tightly wound. Finishes with dusty tannins and repeating notes of licorice and mint.

The seductive yet admirably structured 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers explodes from the glass with aromas reminiscent of blackberry juice and stones. Highly concentrated, deep, and pure, its personality brings to mind a blackberry compote laced with candied black cherries. Projected maturity: 2006-2012. Red-ruby. More roasted aromas of black fruits and game, lifted by a violet note. Rich, sweet and suave, with enticing fruit and licorice flavors of excellent depth. Very juicy and long, with graceful, ripe tannins and solid underlying structure.
