The 2019 Chablis Blanchot Grand Cru is primal and quite oaky on the nose – an appealing Chardonnay rather than a fine Chablis Grand Cru. The palate is rounded and rich, featuring mango, orange pith and peach notes, and quite tropical on the finish. Delicious, but it lacks the intellect and gravitas expected from a Grand Cru, outwitted by the Montée de Tonnerre.

A very impressive and quite imposing Chablis Grand Cru with a wide spectrum of aromas, the emphasis being on apricot and pineapple. The touch of vanilla oak and the youthful vivacity, combined with ripeness and the wine’s considerable depth and power make it compelling. Beautiful balance at the expansive yet zesty finish. Drink or hold.

A suitably cool customer on the nose with some strong green-fruit notes. Density of fruit but just a tad heavy handed. Already quite open. (JR)
