In keeping with the profile of the vintage, the 2001 Chambertin Grand Cru is more structured and compact than the giving, charming 2000. Mingling notes of dark berries, cassis and orange rind with hints of rose petals and loamy soil, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a multidimensional core of fruit, but it remains firm and taut, suggesting further patience is warranted.

This is much more like the Charmes than the Mazis with its seductive blackberry conserve nose and even more majestic build. Still quite severe too but one can't mistake its magnificence. Big, bold, upright. Like a very grand man who is not going to waste time being charming but simply presents himself as something to admire. Sleek, leathery. Yet more shades of St James's Street. A prodigious wine, Dugat’s black-colored 2001 Chambertin boasts a blackberry, chocolate, tar, and dark cherry-filled nose. Medium to full-bodied, supple, sweet, and thick, its voluminous, harmonious character conquers the palate with unbelievably dense layers of lush black fruits.
