The 2013 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru has an open-knit bouquet, though contrasting the two side-by-side, it does not quite possess the precision of the previous vintage. There's a touch of smoke, tertiary in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, tart red fruit and saline with just a slightly bitter edge towards the finish. It is nicely structured and doesn't quite match the 2012, yet it is commendable for the growing season. Tasted at the Clos de Bèze vertical at La Cobotte.

The 2013 Chambertin Clos-de-Beze Grand Cru offers the standout bouquet of the vintage from Pierre Duroche with expressive red and black fruit, hints of sous bois, undergrowth and wet limestone. The palate is fresh and tense right from the beginning: pixellated red fruit, wonderful mineralite and a sense of animation and poise on the long finish. This is a fabulous Clos de Beze from Pierre Duroche.
