Score 93/100 · Drink 1995-1997, Robert Parker, Oct 1995

One of the new super-stars of the appellation, Yves Cuilleron, who also produces red and white St.-Joseph as well as Cote Rotie, is best known for his dazzling cuvees of Condrieu. In such top vintages as 1994, his Condrieu comes in three styles and sizes. The 1994 Condrieu Les Chaillets Vieilles Vignes is made from a parcel of vines that average 35 years of age. Made from tiny yields of 20 hectoliters per hectare (just over 1 ton an acre), the wine exhibits superb fruit, great richness, crystal clear definition, and a full-bodied, layered feel in the mouth. This spectacular Condrieu unleashes an exotic, lavishly rich mouthful of wine that sets off nearly all the sensory alarms. Drink it over the next 1-2 years. This wine was tasted in September, 1995, from bottle, unless otherwise noted. Prices quoted are based on the current exchange rate of five francs per dollar. Importer: Neal Rosenthal, Select Vineyards, Shekomeko, NY; tel. (800) 910-1990
