Light limpid yellow. High-pitched tangerine, melon and violet aromas show impressive focus and vivacity. Silky and taut on entry, then deeper in the midpalate, offering palate-staining citrus and orchard fruit and honeydew flavors complemented by a subtle tarragon quality. Finishes with emphatic mineral cut and thrust, leaving a sexy floral note behind.

100% Viognier (45 years old, from parcels in Paton, Chanson and Rocharde and Vernon). New and one-year-old barrels. Deep straw colour. At the moment this is a bit dumb on the nose. There is good weight on the palate but it doesn’t quite have the tension and conviction of the 2014. It’s a little unfocused at present. (JR)
