Pale yellow-gold. An intensely perfumed bouquet evokes ripe citrus and pit fruits, fennel and violet, which are complemented by a smoky mineral overtone. Juicy and sharply delineated on the palate, offering concentrated tangerine, pear nectar and honeysuckle flavors that spread out steadily on the back half. Deftly marries power and finesse finishing on a repeating mineral note, showing impressive persistence and lingering florality.

Tasted blind. Mealy notes on the nose, and rich apricot fruit on the palate. Definite hoppy character to finish, which isn't exactly normal for Condrieu but it works in this context, adding a touch of herbal complexity to otherwise standard stone-fruit flavours. (RH)

100% Viognier (45 years old). Parcels from Paton, Chanson, Vernon, La Côte and La Bonnette. 10 months in new and one-year-old barrels (Allier, Tronçais, Jupille). Rather light nose. Good gummy savour on the palate and a well-balanced satiny palate, but a much more timid aroma than most Condrieus. Perhaps it needs time? (JR)
