The 2012 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru has a gorgeous bouquet of ample red berry fruit, punnets of strawberries on a hot summer day, orange peel and hints of bacon fat and Italian delicatessen. The fresh, vibrant palate is low in acidity, offering red berries, leather, meat juices and a touch of spicebox; it has retained plenty of fresh fruit. Effervescent and vivacious toward the finish. Excellent.

There are only 80 liters, I repeat 80 liters, of 2012 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru from 192 vines that continue on from Aux Etelois. It is fermented in an 86-liter barrel especially made by a cooper. It has a highly perfumed bouquet–very floral with rose and and violet petals infusing the red and black fruit. One sniff and you'll be hooked. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, a killer line of acidity and sumptuous red fruit interlaced with cassis and blueberry that just flow on the finish. This is a stunning Griotte-Chambertin that sadly will be enjoyed by so few.
