The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jeunes Rois has a fragrant and floral bouquet, with zesty red berry fruit, hints of blood orange and a light lavender scent that percolates through. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and tart red fruit—Morello cherries and crushed strawberry—that carry through the almost-candied finish. Very seductive in style, perhaps this is more a mid-term prospect, given there is less weight and grip on the finish. But, it is undeniably delicious. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Revisited from bottle, the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jeunes Rois wafts from the glass with aromas of red berries, spices, loamy soil and dark chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, layered and velvety, with lively acids and a nicely concentrated core of vibrant fruit, it's framed by powdery tannins and concludes with a long, nicely defined finish.

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jeunes Rois, completely destemmed, has a pretty bouquet of pure red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit, all very seductive and winsome. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and a slightly chalky texture, especially toward the finish, which displays more tension and terroir expression than the Le Clos. Very fine.
