Cask sample. Lightish ruby, looking older than its years. Intensely inviting aromatic, red cherry and wild strawberry and a hint of oak sweetness. Firmly structured, rounded texture even now and a big build to a long finish. Impressive persistence. (JH)

A top note of herbal tea is present on the ripe but brooding nose of wild dark berries, the sauvage, anise and violet. The suave but punchy and much more mineral-driven larger-scaled flavors deliver the best depth and persistence in the range. While this should easily repay 12 to 15 years of bottle aging, it should be reasonably approachable after 7 to 8.<br />

Cask sample. Floral notes. A delightful grand cru which is relatively approachable on the palate but will need several years to unfurl. Violets and blackberry/plum fruit. Restrained, understated but has all the reserves you would expect at this level. Keep 5 years and then enjoy for the next 15–20. (AWH)
