Like the Les Chailles de l'Enfer cuvee, the 2006 Condrieu Coteau de Vernon sports a darker gold and fully mature color. It offers lots of baked apple tart, toasted bread, crushed rock and honeyed notes as well as a full-bodied, layered and textured style on the palate. I have no doubt this was better on release, but I’d happily drink this classy, mature Condrieu over the coming couple of years.

Green gold. Smoky, mineral-dominated aromas of yellow plum, melon, peach pit and graphite, with a zesty citrus overlay. Taut and deeply concentrated, offering fresh pit fruit and citrus flavors complemented by exotic anise and floral pastille. This remarkable bottling showed the longest finish of any Condrieu I tasted this year. This gets the same elevage (25% new oak) as the Chaillees de l'Enfer, according to Christine Vernay.
